EMail-order brochure "TSUHAN SEIKATSU" (Spring 2003) published by Catalogue House Co.

We tested "San-Ai Ethylene Control" (Fresh keeping material for produce) at our commodities laboratory in order to find out how long we can keep vegetables and fruits fresh.  The product was tested for 11 days.  The result of the test is as shown in the following pictures.  Tested samples included Bokchoy and Strawberry.  The samples without "San-Ai Ethylene Control" began losing freshness in about 8 days.  Although the 11th day-Bokchoy was a little dry, it was still eatable.  The peel of the 11th day-strawberry was slackened.  However, taste was very good.  This material is for business use and has been adopted by leading food manufacturers.  Also in Japan, this is used at first class hotels and many warehouses of JA (Japan Agricultural Cooperatives).  We have also created a small pack of this material for home refrigerator use.

Vegetables and fruits continue breathing even after being picked and expel several gases (mainly ethylene gas).  Ethylene gas causes produce to ripen & decay.  Our product makes speed of decay slow by absorbing and removing the gas.  This material is made of Zeolite (mineral with many minute holes or pores) and a small quantity of potassium permanganate. Zeolite absorbs ethylene gas in warehouses and potassium permanganate decomposes the gas into carbon dioxide and water vapor.

Only one bag of "San-Ai Ethylene Control" is necessary in a vegetable storage bin of a refrigerator.  It will be effective for about four months in a 100-liter vegetable storage (Large refrigerator).

San-Ai Corporation (Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Kensuke Miura) has started selling "San-Ai Ethylene Control" for general retail customer use.  This product absorbs and removes ethylene gas to keep produce fresher longer.  The material for business use is already adopted by many JA (Japan Agricultural Cooperative) offices.  Demand for it has remarkably increased.  Therefore, San-Ai promotes selling the product for not only industrial customers but also home users.

Ethylene Control was developed by Ethylene Control Inc. located in the U.S.A. This is patented by the U.S. Patent Office, and adopted officially by the major U.S. organic farming boards.  San-Ai distributes this article exclusively in

Japan and Southeast Asian countries.  This material (purple power pellet) is made of natural zeolite and a small quantity of potassium permanganate.  The purple power pellet oxidizes the ethylene gas, and it reverts into manganese dioxide which is a safe, harmless fertilizer.  Fruits and vegetables can be kept fresher for a longer period of time in home refrigerators by using San-Ai Ethylene Control.  As for business use, produce can be also kept fresher for a longer term during storage and transportation when this San-Ai product is used.

Test pictures show superiority of this product.  The product will keep Apples fresh for 24 days even in strict circumstances (28ŽA60%).  When Bokchoy was tested in 28Ž, 50%, they stayed fresh for 7 days with the product.

San-Ai Corporation makes efforts in expanding demand of fresh keeping material "Ethylene Controlh which was developed by Ethylene Control, Inc., U.S.A.  As a product which controls ethylene gas produced by vegetables, fruits, flowers, this article is used widely at warehouses of food industries, U.S. Forces, supermarkets, and other manufacturers.  In Japan, JA and other companies gradually adopted the item.

The fresh keeping material prevents agricultural foods from not only ethylene gas but also bacteria, virus, and blue mold in the air.  The material is U.S. patented and is called "Purple power pellet".  The pellet is approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the major U.S. Organic Farming Boards.  The pellet consists of natural zeolite and a little quantity of potassium permanganate. And after usage, it changes into manganese dioxide which is a safe, harmless fertilizer. 

According to San-Ai's test, apples in strict circumstances (Temperature: 28Ž,  humidity: 60%) decayed completely in 30 days, while the same fruits with "Ethylene Control" could keep fresh in the same term.  Easily bruising lettuce could be fresh for as long as 28 days in temperature: 18Ž, humidity: 50% when gEthylene Control" was used.   On the other hand,  the same vegetable without "Ethylene Control" damaged seriously during the same period.

2) Filter (S size) for storages or flower cases

3) EC-3 Blower for large storages

(EC-3 can reduce a lot of electric costs and large warehouse construction costs, San-Ai especially aims for increasing demand for EC-3.)

On Sept-18, 2002, the ceremony to celebrate the completion of Tokyo Perishable Food Collection and Delivery Center (New-Tokyo Collection and Delivery Center) in Toda City, Saitama Prefecture by the national federation of agricultural Co-operative association (JA).  About 150 persons concerned joined ceremony.  The persons in charge of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, officers of Saitama Prefecture and Toda City were invited as special guests.  After removing to this new plant in November, they will start new business.  The new center is large-scale facility with newest equipment.  Site area is 24,605‡u, refrigerating warehouse is 3,955‡uAand the warehouse includes 3,624‡u of automatic rack warehouse.  JA Zen-Noh realized temperature controlled facilities in all rooms. Their main purpose is establishment of cold chain system.

The national federation of agricultural co-operative association adopted "Ethylene Control" EC-3 Blower for maintaining freshness of vegetables, fruits and flowers for a long period.  Introducing "Ethylene Control" enables them to receive the agricultural produce in daytime, which means the completion of 24-hour-receiving system.

The full automatic warehouse has been introduced to the center for the first time in the produce distribution industry and brings them rationalization of physical distribution.
